Key products and services of the Service Delivery Department:

The objectives of the Engineering Services Business Unit, lead by the Executive Manager Engineering Services, Mr. H.B. Coetsee, are as follows:

ROADS AND STORM WATER & PUBLIC WORKS

Roads & Storm water has a huge task, especially during the rainy season in maintaining the roughly 600km of roads in Lesedi. The municipality operates several earth moving machines and has a responsible team performing this very necessary work. The community is often involved in the outsourcing of works as Lesedi officials believe in job creation for the local community, should the opportunity arise. This section is managed by Ms Neo Ntsibande, ably assisted by Mr Pule Mokoglhoa (Manager), and Mr Neels Muller (Superintendent).

MECHANICAL WORKSHOP

The mechanical workshop is situated in Heidelberg, where approx 250 Council vehicles are serviced and repaired. The mechanical workshop staff performs the majority of work on the vehicles themselves, and only specialized work and vehicles under guarantee are outsourced. Teamwork is the keyword in this Department and this section is managed by Mr Jantjie Khumalo (Snr Supt), ably assisted by Mr Anton Myburgh (Supt).

ELECTRICITY

The department manages approx. 300km of LT power lines, and 200km of HT power lines. In addition it has approx 15 000 streetlights, 18 000 household connections and 240 substations to maintain, as well as providing new connections.

WATER, SANITATION & WASTE REMOVAL

This department is responsible to provide water and sewage services to approx 18 000 households. It is responsible for domestic waste removal from the same number of households. It maintains approx 450 km of water lines, 20 reservoirs and 450km of sewer lines, as well as provides new service connections.

CIVIL PROJECTS

This department sees to the implementation of all kinds of civil projects, and manages the consultants and contractors.
